Hi everyone,
My name is Chris, and I’d like to share my story of how chronic pain and illness has changed my life, and turned my outlook on life in a whole different direction.
I was misdiagnosed as not having rheumatoid arthritis in my mid 30’s. My primary care doctor had told me she had my RA factor was high, but one indicator, the ANA was negative. She then diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia. I considered this a blanket diagnosis for my chronic all over body pain, but also still had joint pain.
Fast forward to 2016. I have a new primary care physician. I took my mom in to see him, as we both shared the same doctor. He took a look at me, noticing how exhausted I was. He handed me a paper with a bunch of labs to have done, which I did the very next morning.
A couple of days later I received a call from him saying that I indeed have rheumatoid arthritis, I’m in the middle stages. None of the other autoimmune tests were positive. I was referred to the worst rheumatologist in my city.
She started me on medications that were of no help. They all made me sick. I proceeded to find a new doctor.
The rheumatologist I’m seeing now is such a fantastic doctor. She started me on biologic medication, and we both work together on my plan of care to find what works best for me. I’m on my 4th biologic, and now in full remission for the past year going on two.
I also have other chronic pain issues that slow me down, but I’m not allowing anything to stop me.
My outlook on life has changed so much. I’m more grateful, happier, stronger. I love being around nature and being outside more than I used to be. Listening to the sounds, and the smells of what the natural world has to offer is so calming and serene. Best part is, nobody has to pay to appreciate it. The world inspires me. I feel much more positive as each day begins and ends.
For anyone who has any chronic illness, it’s never the end of a chapter. There’s always something new and exciting to find a in your life every single day.
I know this is long, and for everyone who read this, thank you. Thank you Sandy for allowing me to share this story as I’m sure you’re well aware of my positive outlook on everything.
